Hughston Clinic announces restructuring, administrative changes
New umbrella name, Hughston Healthcare, encapsulates company's system of services, which includes orthopaedic clinics, a hospital, a nonprofit foundation, and other subsidiaries
Columbus, GA - Welcome to a new era in healthcare in the Chattahoochee Valley - Hughston Healthcare. The new umbrella name was unveiled Monday in Columbus, Ga., as the system name for the multitude of services and subsidiaries owned and operated by the renowned orthopaedic practice.
The backbone of the healthcare system is the Hughston Clinic, an orthopaedic practice founded in 1949 by the late Jack C. Hughston, M.D. This year, the Hughston Clinic celebrates its 60th anniversary and recently treated its one-millionth patient. With 19 orthopaedic surgeons, the Hughston Clinic is a multi-subspecialty practice with expertise in sports medicine, spine, knees, shoulders, hands, elbows, feet and ankles, total joint replacement, trauma, physical therapy, rehabilitation, and more.
As part of the organization's restructuring, personnel changes were made at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital, a 62-bed hospital in Phenix City, Ala. Senior administrative responsibilities at the hospital were reassigned as part of the ongoing transition from previous ownership. "We needed to further streamline administrative resources at the hospital," said Carlton Savory, M.D., chairman of Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital.
"The restructuring of our organization is part of our strategic vision to become a complete vertically integrated healthcare system driven by orthopaedics," said John I. Waldrop, M.D., president of Hughston Healthcare. "We are excited about our new name and invigorated by our ability to serve patients better, from initially seeing them in clinic, to operating on them in the hospital, if necessary, to rehabilitating them in physical therapy."
The Hughston Healthcare system encompasses:
-- The Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Ga., and its eight satellite offices in Georgia (Albany, Cordele, LaGrange, Thomaston, Valdosta, Vidalia) and Alabama (Auburn, Dothan).
-- Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital, a 62-bed hospital in Phenix City, Ala.
