LAFAYETTE, AL (WTVM) - The Chambers County Shool System is releasing a statement concerning a brawl that broke out between Valley High School's basketball team and montgomery-based Carver High School on Tuesday.
George C. McCulloh, Assistant Superintendent released this statement Wednesday:
"The Chambers County Board of Education does not condone the behavior exhibited by our students, fans and athletes involved in the incident at the basketball game in Montgomery on February 17, 2009. Our athletes and our student fans are aware that they must abide by the Chambers County Code of Conduct while at school functions whether on or off campus.
I was present at this event and witnessed it from the stands, and I will be working personally with the principal in reviewing the tapes investigating our involvement and dealing with all of those that we can identify. We will follow the Code of Conduct regarding punishment for each identified individual. The behavior at this event will not be tolerated by our school system regardless whether you are a fan, a student or an athlete.
We apologize to Alabama State University, the Athletic Association, Carver High School and fans for our involvement in this incident, and would like to thank the security personnel at the event, the administrators from both schools, and the officials for acting quickly preventing any serious injury to fans, students and athletes.
We are presently working with the Alabama High School Athletic Association to resolve this issue."
