TUSKEGEE, AL (WTVM) -  Alvin Piner and Catherine Hernandez have been connected to a murder that occurred in Tuskegee earlier this week.

The duo are scheduled to go before a judge at the Macon County courthouse for their first appearance on Monday, March 2nd at 9:00 a.m.

We're told the murder occurred Tuesday night. The victim, 39 year-old Derrick Bailey of Tuskegee was found on the side of a major roadway. He later died from injuries related to a stabbing.

Police say they don't believe that was where the victim was murdered.

"I'm just shocked that it happened not even a half a mile from the house we were staying in, just shocked," Jawanzua Carr, a neighbor said. Police Chief Lester Patrick says his investigators believe the body was dropped off just minutes after the initial report of the crime around 7:30 P.M.

"You rarely have problems like this on the highway, so it was really shocking for it to just happen on the main street," Nekeyhia Willams, a neighbor said.

Carr saw the body from her yard last night. She says it's shocking that someone would murder someone and leave them on the side of main road, in someone's yard. "Even just to have police cars all outside your house, and I don't even know if the people were at home. To pull up to your house and see a body - it's crazy," said Carr.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is also investigating the crime.
