Fort Valley State releases 2009 football schedule

Press Release

FORT VALLEY, GA - The Fort Valley State University Department of Athletics officially released its 2009 football schedule.  Fort Valley will have 11 games on this year's slate with four of them to be played in the friendly confines of a brand new Wildcat Stadium.

Two new teams will be featured on the 2009 schedule.  Edward Waters College returns on the schedule.  The last time the Wildcats faced the Tigers was during the 2006 season.  Southern University will host the Wildcats on October 17th in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  This will be the first time the two teams will have faced each other since the Yam Bowl in the late 1940's.

Fort Valley will raise the curtain on its new stadium and the 2009 season when it hosts Clark Atlanta University in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.  The Clark Atlanta game will also be the SIAC opener for both institutions.

Other key contests will be Homecoming (Oct. 31) and the 20th Edition of the Fountain City Classic (Nov. 7).  Fort Valley will host Kentucky State for Homecoming and the annual "Showdown before Sundown" against Albany State will be held in Columbus, Ga., at storied McClung-Memorial Stadium.
