Missing person found dead in Quitman County

Press Release

QUITMAN COUNTY, GA - The body of 49 year-old Vicky Jones of Albany, Georgia was found in a deep ravine late Wednesday night by Quitman County Sheriff's Deputies and Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who were conducting a search for Jones after she was reported missing early Tuesday morning to Albany Police.

Authorities are not releasing any information about the death but did confirm that the body was located in deep ravine beside State Road 39 just south of Cool Branch Road near Georgetown. Jones was located approximately 1/2 mile from where her vehicle was discovered parked behind a rural church by a Deputy on routine patrol early Wednesday morning.

Quitman County Sheriff's Deputies, Special Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and a Eufaula Police Detective were at the scene for several hours prior to the body being removed. The scene was processed by GBI Lab Technicians and the case turned over to GBI Agents for further investigation.

"Since this incident originated in Albany, we felt that a more thorough investigation could be conducted by GBI so we turned the case over to them. We'll continue to assist them with the investigation and do what we can here", said Sheriff Steve Newton.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may have possibly seen Mrs. Jones prior to her death is urged to contact the Quitman County Sheriff's Office or GBI.

Vicky Jones is described as being approximately 4'10 tall, weighs 100 pounds, with brown shoulder length hair. She was wearing a black sweat shirt and blue jeans when found.
