COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - If you were looking for a way to feed your appetite and feed the hungry, then the Frank D. Chester Recreation Center was the place to be Sunday.

The Second Harvest Food Bank hosted its annual "Empty Bowl" brunch to help support the Kids Cafe program. You purchase a hand-crafted bowl, fill it up with as much soup as you can eat, and all the money goes to Second Harvest.

The Director of the Frank D. Chester Recreation Center, Tim Marshall, told News Leader Nine, "With this effort and support you get a diverse group of people together, you receive a bowl, you're contributing to a great cause. You have food, fun and fellowship."

The Kids Cafe helps children during the summertime who otherwise wouldn't be getting a balanced meal.

Nearly 1,000 bowls were made for the day's event.
