COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley teamed up with Publix Supermarkets to donate additional school supplies to children in need.
Publix is a United Way Stuff the Bus sponsor and supports the effort with its Tools for Schools campaign.
"We had about a $43,000 school supply campaign and we were able to take the school supplies that we purchased with that and to give them to area schools and various organizations,” said Randy Burts, Publix Supermarkets district manager.
"These supplies help children have the tools that they need to be successful in school, from paper to pencils, to highlighters to crayons. There was a whole section inside the Publix cafe lined with multiple rows that are now already on their way out to help make a difference in our agencies," added Jennifer St. John, vice president of community initiatives at the United Way.
Local Publix stores participated in the campaign and all school supplies from the stores were distributed to United Way partner agencies surrounding school districts at the Publix on Bradley Park Drive.
