No bond given for Victoria Dr. stabbing suspect accused of killing elderly man
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The man accused of stabbing and killing an elderly man and injuring two others on Victoria Drive appeared in Recorder’s Court Friday morning.
Darius Travick is charged with one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault following the stabbing that happened on Monday, September 24. Travick was not given bond and his case has been bound over to Superior Court after pleading not guilty in court.
The stabbing claimed the life of 92-year-old John Dawson and his 89-year-old wife was found beaten and stabbed.
Columbus police say they don't think there is a motive in this case.
Travick's family members describe him as being an unstable person.
In court were emotions running high; friends and family erupting in tears both in and outside of the court room. Just minutes after murder suspect Travick entered the courtroom, one person in the large group of those representing friends and family collapsed into a panic. But court continued, releaving more details surrounding Monday’s stabbing. Travick is accused of stabbing John and wife Evelyn in their home on Monday, hes also accused of attacking a neighbor. Travick is facing a one charge of murder two counts of aggravated assault.
In court we heard Police detail wife Evelyn’s account of what she could remember from the incident. Police say Evelyn recalled returning inside from folding laundry in their outdoor laundry room, when she got back inside she discovered Tarvick in her kitchen with “crazy look to his apperance”. She remembered not being able to find her husband anywhere in the home and then she blacked out.
Medical personal on site reported Evelyn had multiple injuries to her face and suffered from a head blow/concussion injury. Police say that Travick did not know any of the stabbing victims. Travick’s relatives described him as an ‘unstable person.’ And his attorney says Travick is being held in the area of jail where mental treatment is readily available.
