COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Two schools in the local area have been recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as 2018 National Blue Ribbon Schools.
This is the 36th year that the program has recognized over 300 schools nationwide. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress towards closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
There were two performance categories that schools could be recognized for.
- Exemplary High Performing Schools: are among their state’s highest performing school’s as measured by the state assessments or nationally formed test.
- Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools: are among their state’s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students over the past five years.
Britt David Magnet Academy in Columbus, Ga and E.A. White Elementary on Fort Benning were both honored as an “Exemplary High Performing School."
The National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.
