EUFAULA, AL (WTVM) - Following a recent study, city leaders in Eufaula are working to increase the pay of many city workers.
The study commissioned by the city compared salaries of each city worker to their counter part in other regional cities like Dothan, Ozark, Phenix City, and Opelika.
According to Mayor Tibbs, the study shows there is a gap between Eufaula and other cities. “We are not where we need to be by any means,” he said.
To help retain employees, the city is working to raise pay for each position to a level comparable to the cities nearby.
“Some we were close and some we were way off. So we will have some people that might get a 20 percent raise over the next few years and some will get more like five percent.”
The mayor says along with wanting to be on a level with other cities, he just wants to take care of his people.
“We want to take care of our employees,” said Tibbs. “When you have good people, others will come after them. Most times the only difference is the wage. If we are too far apart, people will probably leave and go some place else.”
The raises will be effective January 1 and employees should see the increase on their second check in the new year.
