COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Firefighters battled a fire Thursday at a home on Nightwind Court in Columbus.
Fire officials say one man and two dogs were in the house at the time of the fire, but were able to get out with no injuries.
A neighbor says she heard an initital explosion around 11 a.m. with a second explosion seconds later. She says by the time firefighters arrived, the house was engulfed in flames. Six units responded to the home located off Moon Road in north Columbus.
Another neighbor says flames reacehed 20-feet high.
Officials say the home is a total loss.
John hudgison, director of Columbus Inspections and code Enforcement, says 16 complaits have been filed against the homeowner in just over a decade. The first complaint on weeds, solid waste, and junk vehicles came in 2007.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
