COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Boys and Girls Club of the Chattahoochee Valley named its 2019 Youth of the Year Thursday night.
Diamond Williams was awarded the title during the club’s award gala at the RiverMill Event Center.
Williams is a junior at Carver High School and has attended the Boys and Girls Club since she was seven years old. She calls the club her home away from home.
As youth of the year, Williams received $3,000 in scholarship money, a laptop, and full two-year scholarship to Columbus Technical College.
"Where I come from, not many people usually go to college and actually pay off college back to back. I thought I was going to do the same thing and be a statistic and falling in the way with everybody else. But with this, I can do anything so thank you,” said Williams.
Eight finalists competed for the award and all received a $500 scholarship and the top four received an additional $1,000 and a laptop.
