(Gray News) – McDonald’s is adding Donut Sticks to its breakfast menu for a limited time, starting next week.
The fast-food giant has been expanding its breakfast offerings in reach years, also offering many of its items throughout the day, not just in the morning.
The new product is made of “sweetened dough that are fried and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.”
Donut Sticks will make their debut Feb. 20.
“We initially tested them in select Illinois restaurants in early 2018, and then again in October 2018, as it was critical that we perfected them before we brought them to our customers nationwide,” said Linda VanGosen, McDonald’s Vice President of Menu Innovation.
“We looked at several donut shapes, tested a variety of doughs and even worked to get the amount of cinnamon sugar just right for the recipe.”
The national average price will be $1.69 for six or $3.29 for 12, the National Restaurant News reported.
The new McDonald’s offering bears a striking resemblance to Dunkin’ Donut Fries – a product the chain had success with last year.
“We’re not surprised to see competitors imitate our success with Donut Fries given their popularity with customers, and we will continue to lead the way in introducing fun, unique, delicious items that bring smiles and keep people energized any time of day,” Dunkin’ told the Boston Globe.
Of course, both the fries and the sticks look a lot like churros, so neither can really claim the high ground on creativity.
