CSU employee killed in tragic accident involving dump truck on 11th St. and Broadway in Columbus
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A person has died after being struck by a dump truck on 11 St. and Broadway in Columbus.
The Muscogee County Coroner’s Office confirms that 30-year-old William “WD” Feeney of Midland died at approximately 8:54 a.m.
They also say Feeney was in a wheelchair when he was struck by the dump truck.
The Muscogee County School District says Feeney was a substitute teacher from 2013 to 2014 and was a special education teacher at Midland Middle School from 2014 to 2016.
Feeney was also an employee of Columbus State University as an IT Support Specialist. He also had a 2013 Bachelor of Science degree in middle grades education from CSU.
Columbus State University released a statement saying in part,
"It is with a heavy heart that we report that one of our CSU employees and alumnus, William “WD” Feeney, passed away this morning in a tragic accident. WD was an IT Support Specialist for CSU’s UITS department. He also held a 2013 Bachelor of Science degree in middle grades education from CSU.
Our deepest condolences go out to WD’s family."
Officials with Columbus State also says the CSU Counseling Center is ready to assist anyone who needs to speak with someone.
