COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Former Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson continues taking steps toward a Democratic run for U.S. Senate, announcing Friday that she has launched an exploratory committee for the office.
Tomlinson tells News Leader 9 that she met earlier this week in Washington with top national democratic leaders including minority leader, Senator Chuck Schumer as well as fundraising officials.
Tomlinson left office earlier this year and has been considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican David Perdue for some time.
In a Facebook post, she wrote that she is “laying the groundwork” as Stacey Abrams decides her political future. Abrams lost Georgia’s gubernatorial election to Brian Kemp last fall.
