COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The City of Columbus is running behind on collecting yard waste throughout the city but expects to be caught up within the next few weeks.
Normal yard waste collection equipment was diverted to storms areas for only three days after recent storms to make sure roads were clear for emergency service vehicles to travel.
Waste collection is behind due to some of the following factors:
- The three-day diversion
- Debris still left to be picked up from Hurricane Michael
- Increased debris around the city from the tornado events
- Increased debris from spring clean up
- Equipment issues (running longer hours and five days per week)
The city is expecting to be caught up and on a normal route within two to three weeks.
