COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Competitors will be lining the Columbus RiverWalk this weekend when the Paddle South Festival makes its third annual return.

Columbus Ga Whitewater and Uptown Columbus have announced that the festival on RiverWalk Island will take place Apr. 13.

Paddle South was initially slated to take place over two days, Saturday and Sunday. However, there is a threat for severe weather on Sunday, Apr. 14, so organizers have made the decision to shorten the event by one day.

Kayakers from across the country will take to the Chattahoochee River to compete in the world-class whitewater Columbus has to offer.

The free event will also feature southern cuisine, craft beer, live music and outdoor vendors.

“Our hope is to expose the Amazing Columbus GA community to the exciting world of whitewater kayaking,” said Ross Horner, president of Uptown Columbus, Inc. and Uptown Whitewater Management, LLC. “The fact that we have a world-class whitewater park in our backyard is something to be proud of and celebrated every year.”

The festivities kick off Saturday morning and run the whole day, wrapping up for the evening at 9:00 p.m.
