COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Muscogee County schools will have their own police force.
The school board approved the resolution that will have a police force led by its own chief of police.
The next step is to find police staff and equip them with the resources they will need.
"Now that we have our police chief on board, Mr. Gregory Arp's focus is primarily on building his staff and building the capacity for the department,” said Mercedes Parham, director of communication for the Muscogee County School District. “So, we'll just have to stay tuned for what that will look like. But we are moving forward with everything that staff will need and then moving forward with selecting his next individuals.”
Chief Gregory Arp was previously a chief investigator in Ellijay, Georgia and a former school resource officer. He has served as the school security chief since a unanimous vote from the school board in March.
