LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) - On Saturday, the city of LaGrange held a special grand opening celebration for the community’s newest attraction: The Southbend skatepark.
The celebration included live music, food trucks, contests, prizes, and even skate demonstrations from a group of professional skateboarders.
The skatepark is located within Southbend Park, near downtown LaGrange. Leaders say it is a great place for any and all wheeled-sport enthusiasts including skateboarders, BMX bike riders, inline skaters and scooter riders.
Leaders say the skate park was based on the latest durable skatepark design principles and features a mix of street and transition-style terrain with elements designed for all age groups and ability levels.
The City of LaGrange received the prestigious Tony Hawk grant in the amount of $10,000 to help offset the cost of constructing the skatepark. The former professional skateboarder’s foundation helps to build skateparks in underprivileged areas.
