AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - A man and woman from Auburn have been taken into custody and charged in the stabbing death of a woman in the early hours of Easter morning.
48-year-old Christopher Bernard Lyles turned himself in to police on a warrant charging him with the murder of 59-year-old Phyllis Gulatte.
Auburn police also arrested 49-year-old Monica Robinson Gaffney, an acquaintance of Lyles, for hindering prosecution as it related to Lyles’ whereabouts.
Gulatte was found deceased at a residence on White St. in Auburn at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, Apr. 21. Police say she and Lyles were engaged in an altercation that led to her being stabbed.
Lyles was taken to the Lee County Jail with a bond of $150,000, but is being held on a no bond warrant.
