COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus teenager who has been charged with murder has made his first court appearance.
17-year-old Tellious “T-Man” Brown pleaded not guilty to murder after the shooting death of 60-year-old Roy Wilborn on Illges Rd.
Court testimony revealed that Wilborn was sitting at a bus stop on Rigdon Rd. and Illges Rd. where he was known to often hang around.
Police got a call from someone living in the area about hearing gunshots and someone laying in the road.
When police arrived to the scene, Wilborn was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Police say they have several pieces of surveillance footage from stores in the area. Witnesses told police they saw Wilborn and Brown tussling over a bike that appeared to belong to Wilborn before Brown allegedly shot him.
“He just turned 17-years-old, so everything is obviously devastating. The whole thing has been a horrible tragedy and where I am right now is trying to understand exactly what happen and understanding of the facts and the evidence and handling the case in court,” said defense attorney Mark Shelnutt.
Brown was arrested at first for giving a false name to police. Police say three people could be seen in the video surrounding the bus stop before shots rang out.
They say two people suddenly changed their facial expressions before backing away and taking off in different directions.
Police found a duffle bag with a firearm, clothes, and a gaming device at Brown’s home after issuing a search warrant. Police say one of the witnesses told them Brown stated he was tired of walking.
Brown has also been linked to an armed robbery at Zaxby’s on Auburn Ave. in Columbus. He will face armed robbery and weapons charges in Recorder’s Court on May 2 at 2:00 p.m.
Columbus police have also confirmed that he is a suspect in a stolen vehicle case.
