COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Initiatives are underway to protect local children from the threat of human trafficking.
Some schools in Columbus are teaching and training students to better understand how minors can be tricked into becoming victims. Micah’s Promise is partnering with Georgia’s Statewide Trafficking Task Force to visit school systems.
"Teenagers don’t know that there are people who literally have an agenda, they have a plan,” said Bobbi Starr, executive director of Micah’s Promise. “So, my initiative is to make sure that they are savvy when they are on social media, make sure they are savvy in building relationships, and to make sure that they know there are resources if anything does happen to them."
Micah’s Promise is launching a campaign to build a therapeutic facility which will serve girls who have fallen victim of human trafficking in Georgia.
