LANETT, Ala. (WTVM) - The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that five local airports across Alabama will be receiving large grants for improvements and the Lanett Municipal Airport is one of them.
The Lanett Municipal Airport will receive $8,100,000 for the extension of their runway and is the largest of the five grants.
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby made the announcement for the grants totaling more than $20.8 million across the state.
“This FAA funding will significantly improve the functionality, safety, and efficiency of these airports,” said Senator Shelby. “It is vital that we continue to make important infrastructure investments in Alabama to ensure the growth of local communities and future economic success. I look forward to witnessing the positive impact that these aviation advancements will have on our state.”
The funding was provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation to support infrastructure construction, safety advances and equipment acquisition.
Senator Shelby is the chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations which authored and advanced the measure that including the grant resources.
