COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A church in Columbus hosted its first law enforcement celebration on Wednesday.
The Life Church of Columbus hosted the event to say thanks for everything that law enforcement does each day, and to also bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.
Dr. Walter Taylor, senior pastor of life church and his wife, gave words of thanks at the event and meals were also provided to the officers in attendance.
"I believe it’s my responsibility to bridge the gap between the community and those they are afraid of when there is a crisis,” said Taylor. “So, we are stepping out on a limb to say listen, they are good people just like you all are good people. Stigmas and labels they don't have to exist. We can co-exist in one environment."
This year marks the first year the church has hosted the event. The Life Church hopes to continue to celebration every year.
