HARRIS COUNTY, Ga. (WTVM) - The National Weather Service conducted a storm spotter training at the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department in Harris County Monday night.
Officials and residents from across the county came out to be educated on severe weather and what to report to the National Weather Service when severe storms strike.
“We really want the public to know the different avenues that they can go down to get weather information and how to process that weather information in order to keep those and them around them safe," said Kyle Thiem, general forecaster at the National Weather Service Atlanta. "We want people to identify different structure when it comes to storms and know exactly what that means as far as how dangerous that storm may or may not be.”
The Woodmen Life Insurance Company also donated $1,500 to purchase weather radios, which were available for free to the first 51 families that came to the class.
