COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The heat is on this week as an unseasonably hot stretch of weather takes over the Chattahoochee Valley. A strong ride of high pressure setting up over the Eastern U.S. will keep our temperatures well above average for late May and even push us into record-breaking territory by the end of the week.
Keep in mind, these high temperature records were set back in the early 1900’s, so this is certainly no ordinary heat wave! Expect low 90s the next couple of days, followed by mid-upper 90s late week, and most likely hitting the triple digits over Memorial Day weekend. Rain chances and cloud cover look next to none even well into next week, so don’t expect much in the way of a cooling rain shower to help beat the heat. Though the weather pattern overall looks bone dry, humid air will stay firmly in place, helping to put heat index values in the oppressive territory. Stay hydrated and cool, y’all!
