COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The heat keeps cranking up little by little with each passing day putting us well on our way to the upper 90s and possibly triple digits by Memorial Day Weekend. For Thursday and Friday, expect low to mid 90s before the chance for record-breaking heat takes over Saturday into early next week.
Keep in mind, these daily maximum temperature records were set back in the 1910s and 1930s, so it will have been a good century since we have seen brutal heat like this during the month of May in the Valley. Goes without saying, but make sure to drink plenty of water and wear lots of sunscreen as this heat wave persists. The pattern remains humid too, but dry in terms of rain chances. Expect only a stray shower possible over the next several days before the dominant heat dome breaks down next week and allows for slightly higher rain chances (20% coverage) by late next week. Still looking hot even then though with highs still well into the 90s!
