Interview with Shea Buckner from 'The Long Night'

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Throughout recent years, the state of Georgia has become a major player in the film industry. Now, Columbus has become the home of a movie being headlined by Bruce Willis.

‘The Long Night’ stars actors like Bruce Willis, Chad Michael Murray and a name you might not have heard of just yet: Shea Buckner.

Buckner sat down exclusively with News Leader 9′s Samantha Serbin to talk about his role in the new movie.

The Olympic athlete turned actor, who has previously worked with Hollywood greats like John Travolta and Sylvester Stallone, can now add Willis and Murray to that quickly growing list.

Buckner describes the plot of the film by saying, "There’s an incident that occurs with my brother and I, and we have to go seek help. We need help and we end up intersecting with Chad Michael Murray and Bruce’s characters at a farm in the middle of nowhere, and it kind of documents what happens that night, what transpires for the rest of the long night.”

The title of the movie is fitting given their shooting schedule.

“When you’re shooting ‘The Long Night,’ unfortunately we have long nights because we’ve got to get the movie," joked Buckner.

After 12 hour days overnight in a row, there is probably only a limited number of places you might catch the actor.

“Hooters, Olive Garden, Walmart, I don’t have much time; the coffee bar in the hotel lobby I spend a lot of time at, I haven’t had much time," said the 32-year-old actor.

Despite the schedule, his favorite part of working on this and other films is the people he gets to meet, like Murray and Willis.

“I was like throwing fake knees at Bruce Willis and it was like ‘Holy cow, I’m doing stunts with Bruce Willis. I’m wrestling Bruce Willis around a kitchen right now.’ It’s very cool. It’s a pinch yourself type moment," recounted Buckner.

We’re told filming could wrap next week, but after Georgia has come under fire in the political realm over the controversial heartbeat abortion ban, will this be Buckner’s last time filming in the Peach State?

“I mean we’ll see obviously with the political landscape and stuff; I don’t know. There’s a lot of people, there’s a lot of things that are… lot of moving parts. But of course, this is my second time being in Georgia. Columbus has been amazing; the people are super friendly.”

You can catch ‘The Long Night’ in theaters in 2020.
