2 suspects wanted for armed robbery at Custom Jewelers on Hwy. 80 in Phenix City

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - Two suspects are wanted in Phenix City for armed robbery at a jewelry store.

The robbery happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 14 at Custom Jewelers on U.S. Highway 80. According to Phenix City police, shots were fired during the robbery.

Police say two suspects with hand guns entered the store wearing masks. The store owner drew his firearm, exited his office, and fired at the suspects. Police believe one of the suspects may have been hit with one of the rounds fired by the owner, but this has not been confirmed.

Owner Rusty Gorman said they have been robbed before and it was usually at night, never armed and in broad daylight. He described what all went down when this incident unfolded.

One suspect fled the store on foot and the other tried to leave by vehicle but damaged the vehicle in the process. The second suspect then fled of foot. Both suspects ran into the wooded area behind the business.

No injuries to employees or patrons were reported.
