COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A man who was killed following a vehicle accident in Columbus Tuesday night has been identified.
The accident happened at SR 219 and Biggers Road.
Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley says a fallen tree led to a car stopping on River Rd., but a truck being driven by 44-year-old Jesus Heriberto Lopez of Fortson apparently did not see the tree and collided with it. After hitting the tree, Lopez’s vehicle sideswiped the stopped car before losing control.
Lopez’s cause of death was multiple force trauma to the head and chest, according to the chief deputy coroner. He was pronounced dead at approximately 10:45 p.m.
His body is not being sent for an autopsy, but a toxicology screening will be conducted.
