Man convicted of poisoning Toomer’s oak trees in Auburn dies

AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) - The man convicted of poisoning Toomer’s oak trees at Auburn university has died, according to AL.com

Updyke pleaded guilty to poisoning the oaks during Auburn’s national championship season in 2010. He was ordered to pay nearly $800,000.

Updyke reportedly passed away from natural causes in Louisiana where he lived. He was 71 years old.

Auburn later cut down the trees and replaced them.
