Back the Badge Lee County accepting donations for first responders appreciation

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WTVM) - Back the Badge Lee County is encouraging the community to show its appreciation for firefighters and EMS workers through a donation drive.

The organization is collecting items such as Gatorade, ChapStick, protein bars, and more to give to the approximate 450 men and women, and more than nine stations that serve the Lee County community.

Back the Badge is also encouraging businesses to give discounts to firefighters and EMS workers. Organization leaders said they hope the donations show first responders that the community cares.

“This is just a way for the community to say thank you," said Susan Forbes with Back the Badge Lee County. "We know that you’re taking care of us in that way, and disasters never sleep. So, we do want to encourage the community to donate some items.”

There are donation drop-off boxes at the Lewis Cooper Jr. Memorial Library in Opelika, and Wire Nutrition in Auburn. For a full list of drop -off sites, visit Back the Badge Lee County’s Facebook page.
