PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - Phenix City hosted a ceremony Thursday night to swear in its school board.

It’s the first time that school board members have been elected instead of being appointed.

Mayor Eddie Lowe gave the board members their duties and fulfillments. Phenix City Superintendent Randy Wilkes said Thursday it’s the start of a successful year for the district.

“Well, it’s historic this is the first ever elected board here in Phenix City,” said Wilkes. “So, because it’s the first, it’s very special. This board is excited and they’re ready to get to work so that all students in Phenix City are given the opportunity to excel.”

The ceremony was held in the auditorium of Central High School. Board members were joined by family members.
