BARBOUR COUNTY, Ala. (WTVM) - While coronavirus hospitalization rates across Alabama are on the rise, one East Alabama hospital said its cases are low.

According to Katie Hopper, the assistant chief nursing officer at Medical Center Barbour, the hospital currently has five patients hospitalized for COVID-19. She said the number is about average.

“We are just kind of feeling a little bit of anticipation not knowing what’s going to happen with flu season starting,” said Hopper. “But we’re ready. We’re prepared. We’re going to be able to handle what comes our way. We have all the supplies we need, all the PPE we need, all the medications we can get. So, if our patients need those things, then they are available.”

Medical Center Barbour saw its peak number of hospitalizations so far in mid-July with 14 hospitalizations.
