FORT BENNING, Ga. (WTVM) - Hundreds of families on Fort Benning’s base will be receiving the gift of holiday cheer in the form of a Christmas tree.
Trees for Troops, a project partnership between FedEx Freight and the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, is donating 500 trees to Ft. Benning families.
“Trees for Troops is one way we give back to those who have sacrificed so much for our safety and liberty,” said John Smith, President and CEO of FedEx Freight. “We are honored to lend our world-class operations network to the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation and show appreciation to military families across the country.”
Starting Dec. 2, FedEx Freight will begin driving 12,000 farm-grown Christmas trees to military bases across the country.
Families can follow CDC guidelines for COVID-19 and pick up a tree via curbside pickup with volunteers helping load up the cars. The exact distribution date has not yet been announced.
Bottoms Christmas Tree Farm in Cumming, Ga. will also be collecting trees that will be added to the total.
