Annual tree lighting held on Broadway in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The annual Christmas tree lighting was held Friday night on Broadway in Columbus.

People were encouraged to shop local during the event. Businesses did activities like window decorating contests and the Columbus State University Christmas Tree Trail.

Mayor Skip Henderson also lit a tree.

“Events are going to look really different for us and that’s going to be hard because we’re used to a lot of people and on a really large scale,” said Tracey Green, director of communications for Uptown Columbus. “However, we’re just excited that we can have something for the city and that we can just have something down here that everybody can come and love the lights the decorations, and Santa Claus. It will bring some joy that we all need this season.”

Country’s BBQ provided everyone with free hot chocolate.
