LANETT, Ala. (WTVM) - The City of Lanett remembered those affected by COVID-19 Thursday night.
A ceremony and balloon release was held to honor those victims in Chambers County. More than 300 balloons were released.
Community members also took this time to celebrate the end of 2020 with hopes of a better year to come. Lanett Mayor Kyle McCoy said the night was all about supporting the community and those who may have lost their loved ones to coronavirus.
“So many times with these counts, you see numbers and those numbers are individuals and those numbers have loved ones that are still living and having to live with the pain of what’s going on today. “So, we just wanted those people to know that we were remembering them and kept them in our thoughts and our prayers,” said McCoy.
More than 2,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Chambers County since the pandemic began and 63 people have died.
