Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville joins 10 Senate Republicans in challenging Biden win
Washington, D.C. (WTVM) - Alabama’s newest senator is joining ten other Senate Republicans to challenge the results of the presidential election by voting against electors from certain states.
The plan, being headed by Texas Senator Ted Cruz, would see the establishment of an Electoral Commission with the authority to investigate the way the presidential election was conducted and the results counted, according to Tuberville.
Sen.-elect Tuberville announced via Twitter Saturday that he was joining Sen. Cruz’s call.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has urged Republicans not to try to overturn the election.
Tuberville adds that he and other Senate Republicans will be voting to reject electors from disputed states until this proposed commission has the time to fully conduct their investigation. He says that he believes this can and should happen before the Jan. 20 Inauguration Day.
Congress is set to convene next week to certify the Electoral College results.
“We’ve heard the concerns of millions of Americans - including voters from all corners of my home state of Alabama - about the way the Presidential Election was conducted,” the Senator-elect said in a Tweet.
