Congressman Sanford Bishop releases statement on U.S. Capitol police officer’s death

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - President-elect Joe Biden vowed Friday that those responsible for the death of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick will be held accountable.

Federal authorities have already made dozens of arrests in connection with the violence at the U.S. Capitol Wednesday.

Congressman Sanford Bishop also released a statement Friday following Sicknick’s death. It says in part, “We are grateful for his service and sacrifice. The people responsible for his death must be brought to justice swiftly. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family as they mourn this tremendous loss.”

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Officer Brian Sicknick. Officer Sicknick died after defending our Capitol and the people in it from the violent assault on January 6. We are grateful for his service and sacrifice.
“The people responsible for his death must be brought to justice swiftly. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family as they mourn this tremendous loss.”
