FORT BENNING, Ga. (WTVM) - At least 10 percent of new trainees coming onto Fort Benning are COVID-19 positive, according to the commanding general.
The positive trainees are isolated and quarantined.
As for the more than 10,000 soldiers and staff who just got back from a few weeks of holiday block leave, Maj. Gen. Patrick Donahoe says about three percent are coming back with the virus. A week ago, Fort Benning started giving COVID-19 vaccinations, including to the commanding general, who described it as a sore arm for one day.
“It was unremarkable, didn’t get the post flu shot aches and pains,” said Donahoe. “It is, by all measures, an incredibly safe vaccine. And we’ve got to counter the misinformation that’s out there.”
Wednesday on WTVM’s Military Matters segment at 5:30 p.m., Donahoe will discuss being in a “kung-fu” stance on post against COVID-19 and stricter guidelines for soldiers at gyms and restaurants.
