COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A shooting in Columbus has cost an elderly man his life and one of his family members is the man police say is responsible for his death.
Officers were called to a residence in the 4900 block of Mehaffey St. at approximately 4:47 p.m. in reference to a shooting.
Police on the scene found 70-year-old Walter Williams suffering from gunshot wounds inside the house.
Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Elizabeth Allison pronounced Williams dead at 5:45 p.m. on the scene.
36-year-old Marlon Reese, who is a relative of Williams, was detained on the scene and subsequently arrested and charged with murder.
Reese is currently being held in the Muscogee County Jail where he awaits a Recorder’s Court hearing. His hearing was scheduled for on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 9:00 a.m., but was moved to Friday to allow Reese time to get an attorney.
