COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A local political expert is weighing in and offering a little insight on what’s going on with the impeachment proceedings heard in the the House Wednesday.

Kathleen Adams, a political science professor at Columbus Technical College, says, essentially, the new impeachment documents are to prevent President Donald Trump from holding any political office ever again.

“The Democrats’ position is that they want to make sure President Trump can’t run for office again, even though his term is one more week,” said Adams. “The Republicans, on the other hand, are saying it’s only one more week. President Trump came out and made a public apology the day after everything that happened last Wednesday. Their argument is that things have died down and there won’t be anymore violence or insurrection.”

House lawmakers voted to impeach after a 232-197 vote. This will be Trump’s second impeachment during his presidency.
