COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - An Asian grocery store in Columbus has a new location.
Tuan Clay and his wife are the owners of Oriental Food and Gift located on Armour Road.
Clay said he and his wife had the vision to open the market after he was laid off from Total Systems after being employed for 26 years. The market features items to cater to Columbus’ diverse community.
Clay said his store is important to the community because there aren’t many in the area like it.
“It does well because we kind of cater to multiple nationalities and that helps as far as the business wise, as far as getting customers what they need,” said Clay. “A lot of them don’t like the long drive to Atlanta, and then our Kimchees are very popular here. We make our own Kimchee.”
Clay said the store has been open on Armour Road since November. He’s been running the business for over four years and relocated from Buena Vista Road after the city decided to build a highway. Clay said his store caters to a variety of nationalities, such as African American, Jamaican, Micronesians, and more.
