LAGRANGE, Ga. (WTVM) - LaGrange police are searching for a man they say held a woman against her will before stealing her car.

Officers were called to a motel on New Franklin Rd. in LaGrange Sunday evening where a woman reported that Carl Lamar Stevens, a friend of hers, assaulted her and stole her car.

Investigators determined that inside the motel room that Stevens rented, he reportedly threatened her with a knife not to call police.

He allegedly tried to keep her from leaving the room, but she escaped. Before officers arrived, Stevens stole her car and fled from the scene.

Officers located Stevens in the stolen car, but he was able to escape from them and has not been arrested.

He is wanted on warrants charging him with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, auto theft and obstruction of officers.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact LaGrange police at 706-883-2603.
