Phenix City police charge man with capital murder in gas station shooting

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - A Phenix City man is being charged with capital murder just one day after he allegedly shot and killed a man at a Broad St. gas station.

19-year-old Markei Miles is being charged in the murder of 32-year-old Curtis Lee Upshaw.

Phenix City police officers were called to the Marathon gas station on Broad St. at approximately 12:20 p.m. Saturday to find Upshaw in the passenger seat of a vehicle suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he was pronounced dead later in the day.

A suspect vehicle was identified and later seen on Sandfort Rd. Investigators then arrested Miles and charged him with capital murder.

He is currently being held in the Russell County Jail.
