UPDATE: Suspect charged with double murder of brothers at Columbus Motel 6

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Police have a man in custody and charged with the murders of two brothers inside a Columbus motel.

The shooting was first reported Wednesday afternoon on the top floor of the Motel 6 on Veterans Parkway.

Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley identified the victims as Columbus natives 21-year-old Eric Giddens and his brother, 22-year-old Quindarrius Giddens.

While still on the scene, Columbus police detained 25-year-old Jacob Martel. After conducting an interview with him, investigators found probable cause and charged him with two counts of murder.

Martel is currently being held in the Muscogee County Jail where he awaits a preliminary hearing in Recorder’s Court on Friday at 9:00 a.m.

Eric Giddens and Quindarrius Giddens’ bodies will both be sent off for autopsies.
