New food truck-turned restaurant in North Columbus holds grand opening

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Every day is “Taco Tuesday” at a new food truck-turned-restaurant in North Columbus.

After nearly three years as a taco truck traveling the area, a military veteran and his wife have now opened a restaurant: Tuesdays Street Tacos and Burritos.

The grand opening was Tuesday, on Williams Road, not far from Veterans Parkway. They serve Southern California-inspired cuisine.

Co-owner Jeff White served 21 years in the Army as an armored crew member, including at Fort Benning. His wife, whose helped open other restaurants, describes that transition from military to civilian life.

“He was a tanker. So you can’t drive trucks as a regular job...so we bought a taco truck basically,” said Angie White, co-owner of the restaurant. “He found the truck in Atlanta. It was an empty Little Debbie truck and we outfitted it ourselves.”

Later this month, they plan to bring their food truck out again, in addition to Tuesdays restaurant.

You can hear more about their journey from tank commander and bartender to cooking and serving street tacos in the Fountain City in our “Military Matters” report.
