Tuesday prep baseball wrapup: Two area teams advance to GHSA quarterfinals

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Two area teams advanced to the GHSA baseball quarterfinals in second round playoff action on Tuesday.

The Pacelli Vikings swept the Aquinas Fighting Irish 7-1 and 18-0 to earn a spot in Class 1A-Private Elite Eight.

The Troup Tigers earned their spot in the Class 4A quarters with an 11-0 win over the Perry Panthers to complete a two-game sweep. The Tigers won the series opener on Monday night, 9-4.

Other area teams saw their season end on Tuesday.

Brookstone was eliminated in Class 1A-Private, swept by the Calvary Day Cavaliers 7-3 and 2-0.

The LaGrange Grangers lost a Game 3 road game versus the West Laurens Raiders, 17-7 in Class 4A, while the Northside Patriots were eliminated in the Class 5A playoffs after an 8-7 loss to the Wayne County Yellow Jackets.

One other team was forced to a Game 3. The Schley County Wildcats beat the Crawford County Eagles 8-2 in the opener, but fell 9-7 in the second game. The decider will get underway at 5:30 pm ET on Wednesday in Ellaville.
