Man arrested following heavy police presence on 19th Street in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A male suspect was arrested after acting erratic and threatening to start fires in Columbus.
On June 13, at approximately 5:14 a.m., Columbus officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of 19th Street.
Officers located multiple improvised explosive devices near 19th Street and 13th Avenue.
Based on their investigation, probable cause was established that 30-year-old Ian Aycock was the suspect who was responsible for making these devices. Officers returned that afternoon when they received information that Aycock was back in the area.
According to police, they made contact with Aycock who was inside of a residence, however he refused to leave the home.
At approximately 7:06 p.m., officers were able to convince Aycock to come out of the house and surrender himself.
Aycock was arrested for the following:
- Manufacturing an explosive device - felony
- Two counts of reckless conduct - misdemeanor
- Drug related objects - misdemeanor
- Simple assault - misdemeanor
He had preliminary hearings in the Muscogee County Recorder’s Court on the morning of June 14.
