Columbus man pleads not guilty to vehicular homicide

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Nineteen-year-old Nelson Baldwin III pled not guilty to second degree charges of homicide by vehicle in Recorder's Court Thursday morning.

Columbus Police say he cause a fatal accident that happened Friday, May 21, 2010.

According to a police incident report, it was Baldwin's failure to yield that led to the deadly crash.

Baldwin was driving a Chevy Impala down Macon Road when he allegedly turned left onto Boxwood Boulevard and crashed into a pickup truck.

Barbara McBride, a passenger in Baldwin's Chevy, died from injuries sustained in that crash. Both vehicles received extensive damage.

Thursday morning Baldwin's bond was set at $1650. A police test indicated Baldwin was allegedly was driving 52 mph when he turned left.

We are told Baldwin is a recent high school graduate on his way to the Air Force.
